A 20-year-old Inverness man who drove with five times the safe amount of cannabis in his system was fined £420 and banned from driving for a year.

Michael Bruce, of Lochalsh Road, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted the offence which took place in Canal Terrace, Inverness on December 10, 2020.

His reading was 10mcgs of a cannabis metabolyte when the safe driving limit is 2mcgs.

Defence solicitor Willie Young said: “He had taken a substance earlier in the day which is not a regular occurrence.

“He had no idea the drug would remain in his system. He was prevailed upon to take his friend home from one house to another.

“It was a random stop by police and there was nothing remarkable about his driving.”
