Inverness City Rollers hold sessions to encourage inclusivity in sport
AS part of Leap Sports Scotland's festival fortnight dedicated to working on LGBT+ representation in sport, the Inverness City Roller Derby team hosted two taster sessions.
The inclusive events were fully booked as enthusiastic participants tried the basics.
Bekah MacGregor, chairwoman of the team, said: “We’re passionate about being inclusive so our values line up perfectly with Leap Sports Scotland and their aim to increase the participation and visibility of LGBTQIA+ people in sport.
“We’ve been a part of their north forum for two years now and this was our first opportunity post-Covid to be involved with Festival Fortnight.
“We were delighted to have 14 people try roller skating for the first time. Roller skating is great for your confidence, and it was wonderful to see everyone’s progress throughout the sessions but most importantly they were having fun.
“I hope that we were able to give them the basic skills to start their own roller skating journey, build on their confidence, and we’ll welcome them back in the future for our 12-week Learn to Skate programme.”
