Cafe 1 in Inverness voted in top 50 of UK most romantic eateries

AN INVERNESS restaurant is one of only four in Scotland to be voted on to the UK's top 50 most romantic places to eat for St Valentine's Day.

Cafe 1 in Castle Street made it on to the helpful guide for lovebirds from all over the country compiled by OpenTable, a leading international provider of online restaurant reservations.

Delighted Cafe 1 owner Norman MacDonald said he only heard by email on Monday that he had made the list.

He added: "It is fantastic news. It is great to get accolades particularly for the team that works so hard here.

"We do a special Valentines dinner and we always do very well, not only with couples on their first date, but also with older people looking for somewhere special to celebrate longer relationships. We have a broad appeal."

The other Scottish restaurants in the top 50 most romantic list are Forage and Chatter, which like Cafe 1 serves Scots cuisine, and French restaurant Cafe St Honorare, both in Edinburgh, and Glasgow's No 16 Restaurant which serves modern European food.

The list in the UK was generated from more than 1,080,000 verified OpenTable diner reviews collected at more than 8,500 restaurants in the previous year.

OpenTable also partners with Hinge to develop their Matchmaker tool – to help diners find their perfect and personalised dinner date destinations.

Despite the plethora of choices, the most popular cuisine couples opted for last year was British (23 per cent) followed by Italian, (10 per cent) and third place was steak.
