Caithness cliff faller in airlift rescue after incident near Keiss Castle; Wick and Duncansby coastguard rescue teams, Inverness rescue helicopter and RNLI’s Wick lifeboat all involved in emergency response

A person was airlifted to safety by an Inverness-based rescue helicopter and then taken to hospital after falling from cliffs at Keiss Castle in Caithness on Wednesday,

The alarm was raised after the person, a male, fell at around 2.30pm - sparking a multi-agency response from the emergency services.

Coastguard rescue teams, a rescue helicopter, the RNLI’s Wick lifeboat, ambulances and police were all involved in the emergency response.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard said: “A male reported to have gone over the cliff at Keiss Castle, Wick, was airlifted to safety by the HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Inverness.

“The alarm was raised at about 2.30pm on 30 October. Wick and Duncansby Coastguard Rescue Teams were sent, as well as the RNLI's all-weather lifeboat from Wick.

“Once at the top of the cliff the male was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. Police Scotland was also alerted.”

It is understood the male was taken to Caithness General Hospital in Wick. Their condition and injuries were not known at the time of writing.
