A PUB which shut down suddenly three weeks ago is set to reopen this weekend.

Customers in the Corriegarth were told to drink up and clear the premises on the night of January 18 and one resident was transferred to a neighbouring hotel.

Since then the building has remained closed with signs on the doors telling customers it has been shut down for "emergency maintenance" and will reopen as soon as possible.

But a spokeswoman for owners Punch Taverns told the Courier: "We can confirm that the Corriegarth Hotel is due to reopen to the community this weekend."

She said the small hotel was to be run by a new tenant. According to Highland Council the last known tenant was Rory Munro, who also runs the Gellions pub in the city, but when contacted for comment last week Mr Munro said he had never had any professional links with the premises.

An advert for staff for the Corriegarth reads: "The Corriegarth is being relaunched in early February and we require a full team of staff to help with opening. Already a fantastic business, we are about to introduce a new offer to prepare for the season.

"We are looking for an experienced bar supervisor who can build on the loyal customer base by ensuring great service, beer and wine combined with an excellent knowledge of all drinks including cocktails.

"A personal license is essential as is great cellar management skills.

"It’s going to be hard work, but it will be fun-filled and exciting as we discover our customers’ needs."
