Inverness prisoner who lashed out sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail

A man who attacked two prison officers and threatened others with violence has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.
Sheriff Matheson told Kyle Drummond (22), now a prisoner at Perth after being removed from Inverness Prison: “It is important that there is order in the prison system, so I view this seriously.”
Fiscal depute Alex Swain told Inverness Sheriff Court that on May 4 last year, while an inmate at the city prison, Drummond had wanted to make a phone call.
The phone available for prisoners was in use, however, and a prison officer told him to go back to his cell and that he would inform Drummond when it was free.
“Drummond was walking back to his cell when he turned round and punched the officer,” Ms Swain said.
“There was a struggle and other prison officers went to assist.”
Drummond was placed in a separation cell where he began shouting and swearing and threatening to assault any officers who came in.
“He also threatened to have them assaulted outside prison and to have the son of an officer assaulted,” Ms Swain added.
Drummond was involved in a further violent incident on November 1 when he pushed the emergency button in his cell.
“He asked for his vape from a prisoner in another cell block but this was refused,” Ms Swain said. “He spat at one officer and struggled with him and the officer’s head was struck off a wall.
“Others attended to restrain Drummond.”
Drummond admitted two assaults to injury and threatening behaviour.
Solicitor Clare Russell said: “He had a violent upbringing and unfortunately has followed in those footsteps.”
