INVERNESS is on its way to having its first Porsche Centre if a £4 million plan on a gateway site is given planning approval.

Peter Vardy Ltd has applied to convert Carpetright, in Millburn Road, to a showroom and workshop specialising in the sports cars, SUVs and executive saloons, both new and used.

Vardy’s architects, Yeoman McAllister, state that with £3 million of high-quality construction work plus fit-out and fees, the total conversion will be around £4 million.

Their statement adds: “In addition, there would be increased retail spend in the local area from staff and customers, with 60 per cent coming from outside of the region. This will encourage customers to travel and stay in Inverness, often using local restaurants, amenities and hotels.

“Our quarterly events are held at local conference venues.”

The proposed Porsche Centre would offer 29 jobs plus four apprenticeships.

There are currently only four Porsche Centres in Scotland, the nearest being Aberdeen.

The statement adds: “This high level of investment should have minimal impact on local traffic, with expectations of around 10 vehicles being serviced or maintained on a daily basis, and three to four vehicles being sold each week.”
