Two Inverness men are to stand trial accused of a Christmas Day assault on a man in a Thurso street.

The accused are Lewis Forbes (31), of Oldtown Road, and 37-year-old Stewart Mezzetti, of Balloan Gardens.

The charge alleges that they assaulted John Daniel Begg, pursued him along Thorfinn Terrace, Thurso, repeatedly punched him on the head, causing him to fall to the ground, and then repeatedly kicked him the head and body to his severe injury.

The incident is said to have occurred on December 25, 2019.

The two accused denied the assault, at Wick Sheriff Court, on Tuesday, and are due to stand trial on October 7.
