An office worker apparently panicked when he crashed a family car into a neighbour’s vehicle as he was reversing out of his driveway.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard Ryan Murphy (20), of Castle Heather Gardens, Inverness, ran away after he damaged a wall and a drainpipe, as well as his car, in the early hours of November 10, 2019.

He admitted driving carelessly and without insurance.

Fiscal depute Rowena Carlton told the court: "He then dropped the keys and ran away."

Defence solicitor Clare Russell said: "He was watching a late-night fight and was tired when he decided to move one of the three household cars."

Murphy was fined a total of £680 and had his licence endorsed with seven penalty points.

Because he is a new driver, his full licence will revert to a provisional under new legislation.
