AN Inverness nurse is donating her hair while raising money for Kidney Research UK.

Nicola Ashmole has been sponsored to have her pony tail chopped off with the money going to the charity.

The hair will go to the Little Princess Trust to be made into wigs for children suffering from cancer.

“Everyone raises money for cancer research but no-one raises money for kidney research,” said the 47-year-old.

A staff nurse at Raigmore Hospital, she was inspired to donate to Kidney Research UK by her sister Sally Treadgold, who is a nurse in the paediatrics nephrology unit in Southampton.

More than £700 has been generated so far.

“It feels really good to have been able to contribute towards two charities,” Mrs Ashmole said.

Mrs Ashmole previously raised £600 for CLIC Sargent by doing something similar.
