INVERNESS Music Festival has gotten off to a “wonderful” start, bringing together budding young musicians from across the Highlands.

Taking place at the Inverness Methodist Church on Huntly Street, the musical event sees performers compete in classes including traditional music, vocal, speech and dancing.

Highland Young Musicians (HYM), who promote the High Life Highland (HLH) music tuition services, shared their congratulations for the first batch of winners from the first week.

They said: “Congratulations to Tarradale Primary strings on winning the Eastgate Cup at the Inverness Music Festival. Their HLH Instructor Mrs Farmer was very proud of them and Strathpeffer Primary Strings for taking part in the Primary Small Ensembles.

“And congratulations to Muirtown Primary Strings Group who won the Lady Hermione Cameron of Lochiel competition at the festival. Well done!”

HYM also shared congratulations to Tain Royal Academy violinist, Hannah, who won the Sjiecark Cup.

Nairn’s 13-year-old Sophie Boyne also took to social media to share her delight at winning the Grade 5 piano category for her Foggy Blues piece, which she says brought the adjudicator to tears.

Chairperson of Inverness Festival Association, Jason McClurg said: “A wonderful first week of the 2025 festival! Things are well underway! It’s been great to see so many performances across the variety of classes from woodwind and piano to poetry and debating!”
