A 41-YEAR-OLD Inverness man who broke into a locked car on Christmas Day could not be sentenced, despite being deemed suitable for for a drug treatment and testing order (DTTO).

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Peter MacAllister, of Telford Street, had broken his hip and was awaiting surgery.

He had previously appeared at court on Boxing Day when a background report was ordered. He admitted forcing open a vehicle in Laurel Avenue with intent to steal from it.

But defence solicitor Willie Young then persuaded the court to defer sentence for a DTTO assessment, despite his client admitting previous convictions.

Mr Young added: “The report suggests he is suitable for a DTTO. Perhaps the court could defer further to await the outcome of surgery.”

Sheriff Margaret Neilson agreed and deferred sentencing to April 1.
