An Inverness man who attempted to break into a house was caught on CCTV.

Stuart Lilley (50) was using tools during his bid to get inside a property in Southside Road on July 5, last year.

Fiscal depute Martina Eastwood told Sheriff Robert Frazer at Inverness Sheriff Court that the owner was on holiday but “noticed on her phone that someone was outside the house” adding: “She looked at CCTV and observed the windows and the accused at the locus.

“A still image of the accused was shown to police who were able to identify him. He was cautioned and charged.”

Lilley, of Dalcroy Green, Croy, pleaded guilty to attempting to break into a house with the intent to steal.

Sheriff Frazer ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work with two years of supervision.

Lilley’s defence solicitor Samantha Morrison said: “He doesn’t have a clear recollection of the incident as he was heavily under the influence.

“He is remorseful for his actions and is sincerely apologetic for the fear he caused on others. He is trying to turn his life around.”
