A man has been jailed for carrying out a drunken attack on his partner and police.

Ryan Simpson, who gave his address as Inverness prison, admitted the charges and to behaving in a threatening manner towards police officers in Mackay Road, Inverness, and at Burnett Road police station in July.

Sheriff Margaret Neilson heard how 23-year-old Simpson, who has been remanded since the offences, had visited a house uninvited in Oldtown Road, Inverness, on the evening of July 1. Depute fiscal Robert Weir said he had some drinks and left but returned a few hours later. The occupants did not want to let him back in because “he was under the influence of something” but he walked into the property and began talking to people.

His partner arrived and took him away but they returned and Simpson was agitated, demanding more alcohol. He then went into the kitchen and filled a mug with vodka before attempting to leave.

A few minutes later the occupants of the house then heard a woman screaming down the road. Simpson’s partner was lying at the bottom of concrete stairs leading to flats and she said he had pushed her.

Simpson was at the top of the stairs, banging on a door, but he was led away by his partner before the witnesses heard her screaming again near Hilton Community Centre. They found her lying on the ground again.

Police later attended at an address in Mackay Road to check on the welfare of Simpson’s partner.

He became aggressive and assaulted two officers by trying to punch and kick them. After he was arrested he struggled with two constables and at the police station he threatened to assault officers. Sheriff Neilson said Simpson had a shocking record of previous convictions. She imposed a 12-month sentence backdated to July 3 when he was remanded.
