Inverness man ‘drunk as a skunk’ shouted and swore at police officers outside McDonald’s
A young Inverness man threatened and swore at police officers and kicked their vehicle outside McDonald's.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Richard Shields (22) had squared up to police after they had been called to a fight on the High Street on April 28, 2024.
Fiscal depute David Morton told Sheriff Gary Aitken that Shields had taken umbrage when they told him to remain with them.
Mr Morton said: “At around 1am on April 28, 2024, police received information from CCTV about a fight outside a premises on the High Street.
“Mr Shields was spoken to by officers and told to remain with them in regards to earlier matters.

“He took exception to this and outside McDonald's began uttering various threats, struggling with officers, tensed his body and kicked the police vehicle.”
Shields of Carnarc Crescent, Inverness, pled guilty to threatening and abusive behaviour.
Sheriff Aitken ordered him to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work.
Sheriff Aitken said: “If you are out and drunk as a skunk and police approach you, be nice and courteous.”
Shields' defence solicitor Sam Morrison said: “He was highly intoxicated and is deeply remorseful.”
