Ness Bridge in Inverness has been illuminated in the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian national flag in support of the people of Ukraine.

Convener of Highland Council, Councillor Bill Lobban, and Provost of Inverness and area, Councillor Helen Carmichael, requested the illuminations which reflects the decision taken yesterday at the COSLA convention which was attended by leader, Margaret Davidson.

The largest political assembly of local government leaders in Scotland, the Cosla Convention has agreed to unanimously support the Council of European Municipalities and Regions political declaration on Ukraine, which COSLA helped draft.

The declaration is calling for the conflict to scale back into diplomacy.

It also highlights the role that local government from Russia, Ukraine and the rest of Europe can play as a way to build bridges and support each other to deliver outcomes for communities.
