A Strictly Inverness contestant is set to host a quiz tonight to raise funds for the Highland Hospice and Inverness Ice Centre.

Gavin Ordish-Smith is taking part in this year’s competition which sees contestants undertaking rigorous training to learn three dances which will be performed in May.

Originally from Nairn, now living in Conon, Gavin works at Inverness Kart Raceway and is paired with Michaela Newlands for the competition.

He decided to take part in this year’s Strictly Inverness as a personal challenge.

He said: “I just wanted to do something for myself and take part in a challenge.

“I watch Strictly on the TV and I love dancing and I knew this was here.

“It seemed like the right time for an amazing cause.

“I thought if I could plan for a wedding in two years, I could do this and give it a bash!”

This is not Gavin’s first time on the dancefloor as he learned a solo choreographed dance to Tina Turner’s Proud Mary for his wedding last year.

He said: “I’ve got a lot of energy! If I don’t put everything into it then I won’t be happy.”

Gavin’s fundraising quiz will take place at Conon Hotel from 7.30pm tonight. It is £5 per person in teams of six.

He said: “Even if you don't win the quiz, you still have the chance to win something through our raffle.

“Guess the date of birth of the cuddly monkey - and they will be yours! The winner will be announced closer to my Strictly event. This could be to take home for your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, or even for yourself.”
