An Inverness food truck has been vandalised; just four weeks after the business was opened.

Currently based at Ness Walk as part of the Highland Food and Drink Trail, The Falafel Shop had its door and window vent broken last night.

Owner, Yaman Sarsar was woken up by police in the early hours of the morning, telling him that his premises had been broken into.

Thankfully, nothing was stolen however the incident in itself has been disheartening and the door will need to be replaced.

Mr Sarsar said: “They made a mess inside and I don’t know what the purpose of it was.

“The person didn’t go near the till and I had taken the money away.

“I don’t know why it has happened, I have no enemies. All my customers are happy and the feedback is very good.”

Mr Sarsar is originally from Syria and alongside his father they are serving up authentic falafel alongside other dishes.

The Falafel Shop is currently based at Ness Walk.

He said: “We serve falafel, chicken [shish kebab] but in a traditional way and smoked BBQ rice with chicken and yogurt salad, hummus and fresh baklava.

“Everything is made fresh! We might add some stuff in the future.”

Mr Sarsar is working in the van four days a week and driving a taxi on the other days in order to support his family as the new business starts.

He added: “The most important thing for us is the feedback from people and they seem very happy and love the food!”

The trailer will be open as usual today until 7pm.

Highland Food and Drink Trail posted on its Facebook page: “We are horrified that someone in Inverness tried to trash one of our members’ food trucks last night. Things are tough enough for small businesses without having to deal with petty vandalism like this.

“If anyone has any information about this, please contact the police.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
