An Inverness pharmacy is in the running for Team of the Year at this year’s Scottish Pharmacist Awards after their “resilient” response to a car crashing into their premises earlier this year.

Staff and patients at Lochardil Pharmacy and Travel Centre at Morven Place were fortunate to escape injury when a black Nissan smashed into the entrance of the building on January 22.

Inverness pharmacy in Lochardil damaged by car crash lays on emergency customer arrangements as Police Scotland continue to investigate incident that hospitalised a women in her 60s

A woman in her 60s was taken to Raigmore Hospital “as a precaution” while police launched an investigation into what happened.

After the incident, management spoke of their relief that there had been no casualties resulting from the crash, but that they would continue to serve the public as best they could under “challenging circumstances”.

In recognition of their dedication in response to the incident, the Lochardil Pharmacy team has been nominated for an award at this year’s Scottish Pharmacist Awards.

Nominated for the 2025 “Team of the Year” award, the pharmacy will be looking to add to its growing trophy cabinet, having previously been named as Scotland’s “Community Pharmacy Practice of the Year” in 2020.

They also picked up a prize for “Innovation in Community Pharmacy Practice” in 2023.

The annual nationwide awards, which celebrate the achievements, innovations, dedication and excellence of pharmacy professionals and teams across Scotland, are due to be held at The EICC in Edinburgh on Saturday April 26, 2025.

A spokesperson for NHS Highland praised the team for remaining “hugely resilient and dedicated” in the wake of the shocking incident.

“Congratulations to the team at Lochardil Pharmacy who have been shortlisted for the Community Pharmacy Team of the Year Award at the Scottish Pharmacist Awards,” they said.

“This team were hugely resilient and dedicated to their customers and patients when a car ploughed into the front of the pharmacy in January.

“Luckily no one was hurt and despite significant damage, including the destruction of two previous trophies won at the awards, the team was up and running using the car park and back door the very next day.

“Best of luck at the awards next month!”

A spokesperson for Lochardil Pharmacy said: “We’re incredibly grateful to be shortlisted for Community Pharmacy of the Year at the Scottish Pharmacy Awards 2025.

“This recognition means a lot, especially after the challenges we’ve faced since January, with the sudden loss of our pharmacy building as a result of a serious incident.

“We would like to extend a huge thank you to our team for their ongoing dedication and hard work in keeping our services running throughout.

“Also to our local community for their continued patience and support, and to NHS Highland for their recognition and assistance. We truly appreciate it.”
