Inverness Caledonian Thistle could play West Ham in Europa League if they beat Astra Giurgiu

A MOUTHWATERING clash with West Ham could await if Caley Thistle defeat Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League second qualifying round.

The potential clash with the Hammers was set up this morning when the third qualifying round draw was made.

But the Caley Jags will have their work cut out to make it after losing the first leg against Astra Giurgiu last night.

ICT lost 1-0, handing Astra Giurgiu a precious away goal, even though Caley Thistle enjoyed more possession and created more chances than their Romanian opponents.

Constantin Budescu's superb strike from a 30-yard free kick means Inverness must win in Romania and hope the away goal rule does not prove costly.

Were Inverness to overturn Astra's slender advantage, and West Ham win their own qualifier, then the two sides would play each other on 30th July and 6th August.
