Inverness landmark Ness Bridge to be illuminated blue and yellow in support of people of Ukraine

A HIGHLAND landmark will tonight be illuminated in support of the people of Ukraine.

Ness Bridge in Inverness will be illuminated in the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian national flag at sunset.

Convener of Highland Council, Cllr Bill Lobban and Provost of Inverness and area, Cllr Helen Carmichael, requested the illuminations which reflects the decision taken today at the COSLA convention which was attended by Highland Council leader Cllr Margaret Davidson.

The largest political assembly of local government leaders in Scotland, the Cosla Convention has agreed to unanimously support the Council of European Municipalities and Regions political declaration on the Ukraine, which COSLA helped draft.

The declaration is calling for the conflict to scale back into diplomacy. It also highlights the role that local government from Russia, Ukraine and the rest of Europe can play as a way to build bridges and support each other to deliver outcomes for communities.

Earlier this week the Ness Bridge was lit for Inverness FairTrade Group to mark Fair Trade Fortnight in colours of green and blue.

The switch to the Ukrainian Flag colours of yellow and blue will take place at sunset (by 6pm0) this evening.
