Inverness businesses have voted for the Inverness Business Improvement District (BID) to continue for a fourth term and a further five years.

Ballot papers for the Inverness BID election were sent to all eligible voters on February 2 and the businesses had the opportunity to cast their vote for the past seven weeks.

The count was held today with the ‘yes’ result declared by ballot holder, Kate Lackie, chief executive of The Highland Council and by the independent scrutineer, for the CIVICA Electoral Services.

Inverness City Centre Business Improvement District chairman Peter Strachan commented: "We are delighted that our business community through the ballot process has confirmed that they very much need and want a BID.

"Inverness is such a great place to live, work and visit and we are extremely grateful to have our mandate confirmed so that we can begin to implement our fourth term business plan (available on our website) in order to make a difference.

"To our businesses I say – we won’t let you down. Anything big or small that you need or want, please just contact the team.

"I would also like to thank our dedicated team for their tremendous efforts both, my fellow board members, and the many hundreds of businesses that we have been privileged to work both with and for since 2008."

The new BID will become operational from 1 April 2023, when all businesses and property owners will pay a levy that goes towards improvement projects. BID projects are driven by the directors of Inverness BID company who are elected by local businesses.
