An Army cadet from Inverness has been given the honour to assist the Lord Lieutenant in their official duties.

Cadet Sergeant Saul Anderson from 1st Battalion The Highlanders’ Inverness Detachment, was presented with his certificate of appointment as the new Lord Lieutenant’s cadet of Inverness-shire on Monday May 27, by the Lord Lieutenant of Inverness-shire, James Wotherspoon.

The presentation took place the Inverness Army Reserve Centre at Gordonville Road, where the detachment meets each week, in front of the cadets and volunteers of Inverness Detachment.

16-year-old Sgt Anderson has been a member of the Army Cadets since January 2020 and during this time has shown commitment, leadership skills, discipline and integrity in his time with the Army Cadets.

A spokesperson for the Army Cadets said: “He has shown good leadership skills and commitment to the detachment, company and the battalion by representing the battalion as a member of the Cadet Cambrian Patrol Team.

“This was the first time he has trialled for a place in a Military Skills Competition and was the youngest in the team, where the Battalion achieved a Gold Standard and won ‘Best International’ Army Cadet Team.

“Saul then went on to lead the Battalion's Scottish Cadet Military Skills Team last September, in which the team finished in fourth place and competed against other Army Cadet and Combined Cadet Force Units from across Scotland.

“As a cadet instructor, Sgt Anderson has been delivering lessons at the detachment to new cadets and continually helps to progress the detachment, showing excellent leadership and has a great understanding of how a detachment runs.

“He is always on point by helping cadets in the detachment with advice on wearing of uniform, how to take care of their uniform and encouraging them to progress within the cadets.”

As the Lord Lieutenant's cadet, Sgt Anderson will accompany Lord Lieutenant Wotherspoon on official engagements in his capacity as His Majesty The King's appointed representative for Inverness-shire.
