Inverness among safest areas in the country when it comes to car theft

The Highland capital sees some of the lowest levels of car theft in the country according to a vehicle insurance firm.

Inverness sits alongside the Orkney Islands and Perth as the safest locations for car owners based on 5.8 million car insurance quotes through the MoneySuperMarket website in the past year.

Essex was found to be the worst according to the study, with three towns in the area being in the top 10 for stolen cars.

Top was Ilford with 20.3 car thefts per 1,000 of the population, second Romford (19.1) and Southend-on-Sea (12) was tenth.
