ScotRail cancels some trains on the Far North Line between Wick and Inverness after on-train staff member is 'taken ill'; move comes ahead of reduced timetable next week amid efforts to tackle spread of Covid-19 coronavirus
RAIL passengers on the Far North Line face added disruption today - as two trains have been cancelled after staff fell ill.
ScotRail confirmed that the 8.02am Wick-Inverness service and the return 2pm Inverness-Wick journey have both been cancelled.
It follows similar disruption on Friday, again because of illness of an on-train staff member.
A ScotRail spokesman said: "To help you complete your journey you can use your ScotRail ticket or Smartcard on Stagecoach North buses, at no extra cost. [These apply] between Inverness and Wick at the following stations; Inverness, Beauly, Muir of Ord, Dingwall, Alness, Invergordon, Fearn, Tain, Golspie, Brora, Helmsdale, Georgemas Junction, Thurso and Wick.
"Please note Ardgay, Culrain, Invershin, Lairg, Rogart, Kildonnan, Kinbrace, Forsinard, Altnabreac and Scotscalder are not covered.
"Need info on bus times? Visit Traveline Scotland."
The disruption comes ahead of the implementation of reduced timetables next week as a result of the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak.
