A 51-year-old drunk shouted and swore at his partner telling her to pack her bags - but it was him who had to leave the house when police arrested him.

Mark Mackay's partner phoned 999 when he became aggressive towards her, uttering derogatory remarks and threats towards her in the early morning of July 3 at a house in Inverness.

The call handler heard what was being said - "You lied to me." and other expletive-loaded comments and officers were dispatched to the house.

Mackay's partner managed to let the officers in the communal hallway and fiscal depute Susan Love told Sheriff Gary Aitken: "She was shaking like a leaf".

The law's arrival did not stop Mackay, of Drakies Avenue, Inverness, who screamed at his now ex partner: "If I get arrested, I will kill you."

Ms Love added: "As he was being escorted from the building, he continued to swear at her and told her to pack her bags."

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans told Inverness Sheriff Court: "This appears to have been borne out by too much alcohol on his part and the relationship is now over."

Sheriff Aitken deferred sentence until January 23 for a background report, an assessment for a domestic abuser's programme and consideration of a non harassment order to protect the victim.
