SHIVER me timbers – and everything else!

But cold and inclement weather failed to dampen the spirits of Nairn Sailing Club members who dressed up as pirates for their open day at the town’s harbour.

The seas were relatively calm and a dozen boats from the club adorned with flags and bunting took people out into the Moray Firth on free trips.

The boat yard was full of stalls from businesses to local clubs and organisations.

Entertainment was provided in the organiser’s clubhouse at the harbour and members of the local branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution served teas and coffees throughout the day in exchange for donations.

Ardersier and Nairn rowing clubs brought their home-built skiffs and Nairn Pipe Band performed on the quayside.

Invergordon lifeboat crew crossed the Moray Firth and led the yachts into the harbour for a grand parade of sail.

Sailing club commodore David Bushell said: “Although the weather wasn’t the best, we had a great open day.

“We managed to get about 200 people out on the water on the boat trips and we raised some funds for our club and other worthwhile charities.”
