ICYMI: Inverness Half Marathon and 5K fun run in 30 pictures

By Philip Murray

A RECORD 3000 runners defied the weather to hit the streets of Inverness for the city’s annual half marathon.

Competitors ignored ferocious wind and driving rain to tackle the course last Sunday.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games marathon bronze medallist, Robbie Simpson, was first man over the line in 1 hour 6 minutes 15 seconds.

Lancashire athlete Liz Abbott produced an outstanding performance to win the women’s title by completing the course in 1:16:52, a time bettered by only 19 men.

There was family double joy in the accompanying 5K fun run in which Lucas Cairns (Inverness Harriers) took top spot ahead of a field of 1200 runners in 16 minutes 33 seconds while his younger sister Anna, winner of the under-13 title at last month’s Scottish cross country championships, was first girl in 19:09.
