RAIN failed to put a dampener on an event which raised £1200 towards developing Scotland’s first multi-purpose centre for children and young people with severe and complex difficulties.

The Daisy Day at Smithton Church, Inverness, raised money for the Haven Appeal, launched by the Elsie Normington Foundation.

Foundation chairwoman Elsie Normington was delighted with the support.

“It poured with rain all day so Plan B was implemented and all the stalls and activities were moved into the games hall at the church,” she said.

“The church was absolutely fantastic and folk came together to help set it up.

“It was a great family day.”

Attractions included a pipe band, singing groups, Highland dancers, a ceilidh band and a Gaelic singer. There was also a bouncy castle and face painting.

The appeal aims to raise

£4 million to create a pioneering centre in Murray Road, Smithton.

It will feature respite houses, a community café, specialist play centres and a community garden. As part of the appeal, a crowdfunding campaign with a daisy theme has been launched to raise £1.6 million for play facilities at the proposed centre.
