Iceland supermarket is set to close its only Inverness store in less than 10 weeks.

The food retail chain, situated at Rose Street Retail Park in the city centre, has confirmed it will cease trading on July 12.

Iceland has operated in Inverness city centre for several years alongside Smyth’s toy superstore, Home Bargains and Starbucks.

But there have been complaints from customers about parking charges and fines demanded by a third-party car park operator, including from disabled motorists.

The firm has also operated The Food Warehouse since November 2022 at Telford Retail Park. That store has free parking outside.

An Iceland spokeswoman said: “We can confirm our Iceland store located at Rose Street, Inverness, is scheduled to close on July, 12.

“Our store colleagues will enter into a consultation process and will be offered opportunities at surrounding stores where possible.

“Shoppers can visit our local Food Warehouse store in Inverness located on Telford Street, IV3 5LU.”

Iceland also has a delivery service which it has been rapidly expanding and is available through its website, JustEat, UberEats and Amazon.
