A HOTEL in Inverness city centre has come up with an ingenious way to raise money for a Highland charity.

The Penta Hotel in Academy Street is selling specially-created soups to guests and all the proceeds will be handed over to New Start Highland at the end of the month.

Three recipes – creamy tomato, veggie minestrone and spicy red lentil – have been created in collaboration with Penta’s executive head chef John King and the hotel group’s new partner, Netherlands-based The Smallest Soup Factory.

Manager Zsolt Jakri said the soup was available to diners in the hotel, as well as to take away. Special mugs and jars of soup are also being sold and guests are being invited to add an extra £1 to their bill which will go to New Start.

Mr Jakri added: “We want to do more work on community projects – we want to be a part of the Inverness community.”

It is not the first time the hotel has supported New Start Highland.

Before Christmas it hosted 70 volunteers and trainees for lunch and also donated surplus toiletries when it switched to large-size dispensers in its bathrooms.

It is now in discussions with the charity about the possibility of training opportunities to improve people’s employability in hospitality and catering.

Mr Jakri said New Start Highland was a worthwhile charity and he was delighted to support it.

“Housing is a big issue in the area,” he added.

“If we can give something back it will go to New Start Highland. It is a very easy charity to work with.”

The charity’s chief executive, James Dunbar, said: “It is wonderful when organisations have a desire to help those who work with the most vulnerable people in society.

“It is so refreshing when you see organisations like the Penta Hotel wanting to do something to make life easier for people for whom life can be pretty challenging.”

New Start Highland works to help young people to realise the valuable potential within themselves. It provides a range of services from practical assistance in setting up a home to work experience, vocational qualifications and life skills coaching.
