Inverness takeaways plan lodged with Highland Council for New Start Highland pop-up shop site
Hot food takeaways could one day replace a furniture store in Inverness after plans were lodged with Highland Council.
Applicants J. P. and A. Headon have lodged plans for a change of use of a retail building in the Longman industrial estate.
The building, which is located in Henderson Road, would also be subdivided to provide separate entrances and internal partitions to enable the site to house two hot food takeaway units.
The site, in Unit 3 at 2 Henderson Road, used to be home to Pagazzi Lighting before that retailer pulled out of Inverness earlier this year.
Back in the summer, the social enterprise New Start Highland opened a pop-up shop within it to cope with growing demand from customers at its various other sites.
However, that new store has only ever been described as a 'pop-up' store, rather than a permanent addition to New Start Highland's retail estate.
And the application lodged with Highland Council suggests that its temporary nature has not changed.
However, although the application has been submitted, it does not necessarily mean an imminent move is on the cards for New Start's pop-up shop.
If and when planning permission is granted, that permission would not lapse for three years - meaning work would not even have to begin before 2027. It's also possible the permission is being sought simply to broaden the location's appeal to potential tenants (opening the scope to takeaway chains as well as retailers), rather than because of any firm offers from businesses or intentions from the applicants.
The applicants' agents, Mabbett & Associates, have been approached for further information and comment, as too has New Start Highland.
