AN Inverness firm’s generosity has helped a charity’s bid for a new outdoor play area for patients at Raigmore Hospital’s children’s ward move a step forward.

D&E Coaches has handed over a £4000 donation to the Archie Foundation’s plan.

Mary Nimmo, chairwoman of Archie Foundation Highland, said: “We’re immensely grateful to D&E for their superb gesture.

“Our Fresh Air Project will mean that all areas close to the children’s ward, some less than attractive, will be transformed into greenery where the children can roam or play, rather than being confined to the ward.

“We have raised over £100,000 towards our £150,000 target and, while we must continue fundraising, the D&E donation means we are giving the green light for works to begin.”

There is no specified date for construction to start.

Donald Mathieson, managing director of D&E Coaches, said: “We transport 3000 Highland children daily, so it’s nice to put something back in this way. The Fresh Air Project is a fantastic cause and we’re delighted our donation means that work can begin. But there’s more money required to complete the funding for the initiative and we encourage everyone to continue coming forward with the necessary donations.

“Archie Foundation Highland does magnificent work and we congratulate Ms Nimmo and her team.”
