Nairnshire mail delivery issues should be solved in weeks, says Royal Mail
Mail delivery problems in Nairnshire should be resolved in the coming weeks, an MP has been told by Royal Mail.
Last week, The Inverness Courier reported on letters not being delivered in several locations for about two weeks — with residents missing out on medical appointments and invoices as a result.
SNP MP for Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey, Graham Leadbitter met with Royal Mail representatives last week after the matter was brought to his attention.
He said: “I welcome their acknowledgement of the concerns and frustrations of the local community and the apology they gave for the poor service that has been experienced.
“They have given a very strong commitment to working to resolve these issues over the next six to eight weeks and ensuring they don't arise again.
“I understand they are experiencing recruitment difficulties at local sorting offices, but that they’ve since put a firm plan in place to address staffing shortages in the near future. I was clear with them that it is particularly important that their universal service obligations are met in rural communities like this one.”
He added that he will continue to engage with Royal Mail in the hope that “communities like this aren’t cut off or cast aside” and encouraged people to share Royal Mail recruitment information through social media and other channels.
At the time of writing, the closest positions being advertised on Royal Mail’s website are in Dingwall and Dornoch.
