Homeless Inverness man arrested after waving to police in bid to tell them about his plight
A HOMELESS Inverness man who was on a court-ordered curfew between 7pm and 7am waved to police when they passed him in a patrol car in the city centre.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the officers later arrested Atif Baig (30) for being in breach of his bail order in the early hours of last Friday morning.
Defence solicitor John MacColl explained that Baig had lost his homeless accommodation in Union Street because he had previously been remanded in custody on April 23.
"He was liberated on appeal on April 30 but his room was no longer available to him," Mr MacColl added. "He waved to the officers to tell them of his problem when he should have gone straight to the police station."
Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald admonished Baig, of no fixed abode, because he had spent three nights in custody.
