Police were called out on New Year's Eve to a car having collided with a roundabout in Culduthel Road and discovered a drink-driver at the wheel.

Dawid Sienkowski, of Evan Barron Road, Inverness smelt of alcohol and tested positive in the early hours of Hogmanay 2023 with a reading of 83mcgs when the legal limit is 22mcgs.

The 20-year-old apprentice electrician admitted drink-driving as well as having no insurance and was fined a total of £1040 by Sheriff Robert Frazer. A 16-month driving ban was also imposed.

Defence solicitor John MacColl told the court: "The loss of his licence will cause a significant handicap but it is not essential for his employment."
