A9 police spot Inverness careless driver
A new car with fierce acceleration landed a 30-year-old Inverness man in trouble with the law and led to him selling his hot hatchback soon afterwards.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that police on patrol on the A9 at lunchtime on February 16 last year saw Connor Anderson's Seat Leon emerge onto the dual carriageway and accelerate sharply towards the city centre, travelling at a grossly excessive speed.
Fiscal depute Victoria Silver told Sheriff David Mackie that officers caught up with Anderson, of Pinewood Drive, at the Raigmore interchange after having to exceed the speed limit to catch him. The actual speeds were not available to the court.
Anderson admitted careless driving and was fined £470. But he kept his licence which was endorsed with nine penalty points after solicitor David Patterson asked the court not to disqualify him.
He said: "He concedes his speed was excessive. He had recently purchased the vehicle and it was too powerful for his needs. He didn't keep it as a result of this offence and purchased something more sensible.
"His licence is vital for his employment and the family unit."
