Inverness coach hire firm D&E Coaches is projecting a 25 per cent leap in the number of cruise liner passengers it will carry to key Highland attractions.

It carried 6000 passengers last year but will be boosted by a new venture in which smaller liners moor off Inverness and passengers are taken to the city’s marina.

“We see us breaking the 8000 mark this year,” said D&E founder and managing director Donald Mathieson.

“Invergordon was obviously the largest port of call for the liners last year and that will remain the case this year, with 110 liners, but we also transported visitors to and from the ports of Portree, Oban, Ullapool and Scrabster.

“The innovation in which liners of 1500 passengers can be collected from Inverness Marina is another exciting opportunity for us – and, as it develops, it can be a significant advantage to the city economy.”

D&E Coaches has been catering for cruise liner passengers for 12 years taking them to attractions such as Loch Ness, Eilean Donan Castle, Cawdor Castle, Fort George and Culloden.
