Hilton Primary fun day seeks to boost fundraising bid to replace 30-year-old sound system at
An Inverness primary school will be hosting a fun day in a bid to purchase new equipment deemed as an “integral” part of life at school.
The newly formed Hilton Primary Parents and Friends (HPPF) parent council is hoping to get the community and businesses involved in their fundraising bid, which will see an autumn fête run on Saturday, September 21 at the school.
This ongoing fundraising effort is to replace the school’s 30-year-old sound system with a new one, with a fundraising target of just under £9000.
Anne Edwards, one of the parents involved in the HPPF, said: “The sound system is an integral part of our school and has currently been used for over 30 years. It is used for school assemblies, sports events, discos, talent shows, Christmas concerts and our very successful “Breakfast Boogies.
“The pupils at Hilton are actively involved in fundraising by helping to organise a winter fair, gala days and car boot sales and cake bakes. This is a testament to our incredible children who are supported by an ethos of encouraging achievement and celebrating success.
“All this work is great, however we are still a long way off our target of £8865 for a new sound system. We are looking for local support. Cash donations, donations for raffle prizes or sponsors for our Primary 7 hoodies.”
She said that budget cuts in the past years have taken a toll on extra-curricular activities for children.
“Hilton is one of the largest Primary schools in Inverness,” she said.
“With so many budget cuts the pressure on the school is enormous and sadly less money means cuts to extra-curricular activities are inevitable. Many of the children live in poverty and cuts to education can have a negative impact on children and teachers.”
Because of this, HPPF are calling for the support of the local community.
She said: “By supporting us, local businesses can play a pivotal role in directly supporting our children. They provide a valuable opportunity to demonstrate to our children that they matter, and through education they have an opportunity to thrive and build a better future.
She said they hope for a good turnout and that the group is really grateful for businesses who are already contributing to the day.
The fête will be on September 21 at Hilton primary school between 11am and 3pm and will see loads of fun activities and games on offer as well as hot food and ice cream along other treats.
