THE Highlands have recorded no fresh confirmed cases of Covid-19 for the past three days, the Scottish Government's daily update has shown.

The total number of positive tests in the NHS Highland board area has remained static at 374.

The news came as 17 fresh positive tests were registered across Scotland as a whole.

However, no further fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours – marking the first midweek day where this has occurred since the early days of the pandemic back on March 20. The death toll among those who tested positive is still 2482. Previous days without reports of any fatalities all came on or immediately after weekends, when registration of case numbers normally falls.

Elsewhere, there was also a fall in the number of Scots being treated in the country's hospitals with confirmed coronavirus, which dropped from 472 on Thursday to 467 last night. Seven of those were in intensive care.

In other parts of northern Scotland, Orkney, Shetland and Eileanan Siar's health boards continued their run of days without fresh positive tests.

NHS Grampian reported three new cases, taking its overall number of positive tests to 1417. Although, the number of patients in its hospitals being treated for Covid-19 fell by three, to 46.

NHS Tayside, meanwhile, recorded two fresh positive tests, for an overall tally of 1767. Five of those were in hospital receiving treatment last night, a figure unchanged since yesterday's update.
