Highlands and Islands Students' Association welcomes new team of officers
A NEW team of officers have taken the helm at the Highlands and Islands Students Association – and will represent the students of the University of the Highlands and Islands in the next academic year.
HISA represents more than 30,000 higher and further education students across the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and its 13 partners, representing students' views from the classroom right up to the University Court.
And this year's officers have pledged to tackle issues of discrimination, sustainability, and mental wellbeing.
“I am incredibly excited to be leading the 20/21 HISA Executive Committee through the upcoming academic year," said 2020/21 HISA President, Florence Jansen. "We have some great new officers entering the team, and I can’t wait to see the work they do to improve the student experience across the university.
“Despite the challenges facing students' associations across the sector due to Covid-19, our officer team is ready to explore the new opportunities that have been established throughout the crisis. I am especially keen to explore the ways in which we can translate our activities into an online format, making them more accessible and inclusive across the university partnership.
“Covid-19 has shown us that there is an immense need for the partnership to work closer together and I hope that this year we will see the integration process begin, to support our staff and guide our students through their academic journeys.”
Dr Iain Morrison, Dean of Students, added: “The university warmly welcomes the new student officers and we look forward to working in close partnership with them throughout the year. We are not complacent about the strong relationship we have with HISA.
"It is very important that they represent our students effectively, help us to build on the excellent practices already in place across the institution, and hold us to account when we don’t get it quite right.
"Our goals are the same: ensuring that this university continues to be a great place to study, and I have no doubt that the new officers will help us keep our students at the heart of all we do.”
