A Highland mental health charity will hold an open day at its new Inverness base to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10.

Mikeysline relocated in June from its original Hive drop-in centre in Academy Street to a new base in Strothers Lane.

The charity says it has been a positive move, with volunteers, staff and service users acknowledging the welcoming and comforting environment.

To mark the annual World Suicide Prevention Day, it will hold an open day with the public invited between noon and 2pm. Agencies are invited between 10am and 11.30am while staff and volunteers are invited between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.

Mikeysline was founded in 2015 following the tragic deaths of good friends, Martin Shaw and Michael Williamson within 48 hours of each other.

The charity said World Suicide Prevention Day raised the importance of suicide awareness being everyone’s business and the worldwide commitment to prevent suicide.

“Alongside Mikeysline’s core services of providing support for mental health, wellbeing and suicidal thoughts, campaigning and raising awareness is key,” the charity said.

“Mikeysline’s ‘Bee The Change’ campaign, originally launched in October 2023, centres on this message and focuses on changing the dialogue around mental health and is based on the premise that all of us can make a difference in this.

“Holding an Inverness Hive open event marks both the national awareness day and Mikeysline’s message of ‘it’s ok not to be ok’.”
