A Highland man has been replaced as editor of well-known political magazine The Spectator.

Fraser Nelson, who went to school at Nairn Academy and Rosebank Primary School, has been editor of the magazine for the past 15 years, having risen to that position in 2009 - three years after first joining it.

He will be replaced as editor by former UK Conservative government cabinet minister Michael Gove from October 4.

Mr Nelson, who described Mr Gove as his "clear successor", said that Mr Gove has asked him to stay on as an associate editor at The Spectator.

The shuffle follows the takeover of The Spectator by GB News backer Paul Marshall, a hedge fund tycoon who is also owner of the UnHerd website and is currently seeking to buy further UK media outlets in the form of the Sunday and Daily Telegraphs.
