Local drivers are being encouraged by Police Scotland to sign up to a new alert system operating within the Highland region.

Officers from the Preventions and Interventions team have launched Driver Watch Highland and Islands in partnership with Neighbourhood Watch Scotland .

Driver Watch will enable members of the public who regularly use the road networks, either for social or business use, to sign up for alerts from Police Scotland.

Police Sergeant Jennifer Baughan, based at Inverness, said: “We will be able to use Driver Watch to put out alerts to raise awareness of important issues like exploitation, county lines and cuckooing, which can affect the most vulnerable members of our communities.

"We also hope that it will enable road users to positively contribute in our appeals relating to incidents such as road traffic offences or missing people, where they may have seen something relevant or have captured information on their dash cams.

"I would encourage anyone to sign up. Particularly If you drive regularly for your work or business, such as taxi drivers or delivery drivers."

To sign up to Driver Watch Highland and Islands visit http://www.ruralwatchscotland.co.uk/ and follow the simple instructions.

Also remember that anonymous reports can be made to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
