An Inverness councillor is warning members of the public removing earth from their own land not to dump it elsewhere.

Cllr Ken Gowans, Inverness South, said that private land near Elmwood Avenue was damaged and a popular burn in Milton of Leys impacted after someone removed earth from one area, moved it and allowed it to seep into the water.

Mr Gowans warned others not to dump anything, but especially when it was near a watercourse.

He said: "We are currently dealing with an environmental issue in Milton of Leys.

"Someone has taken it upon themselves to dump earthworks into Mill Burn.

"They have also damaged private land as they moved their vehicle onto the grass to dump the spoil.

"The council is investigating what has happened. They are also working closely with SEPA.

"I have no doubt there will be further action in this matter."

He continued: "People need to be very careful when it comes to moving earth works and dispose of it appropriately.

"It should never be dumped in a watercourse."
