Highland Council has issued a reminder to locals that parts of the Southern Distributor Road will be closed tomorrow for Cancer Research UK’s 5k Inverness Race For Life.

That means anyone planning on heading from the south of the city towards the north shore of Loch Ness will have to find another route as those taking part will start and finish at the Highland Rugby Club.

It appears runners will set off from the rugby club and make their way to the Ness-side roundabout before heading back to the way they came for two laps of the 5K run.

According to Cancer Research UK: “This course is a 5km distance, made up of two laps. The route starts and finishes at the Highland Rugby Club. It weaves up onto the A8082 which will be closed for the duration of the event.

“You get some beautiful views of the River Ness and the surrounding landscape, all whilst on a flat, smooth course. The start, finish and the full course is on tarmac paths or roads. There is only one short section that has a slight incline and loose stones on the surface.”

The charity added: “There will not be any water refill stations along the course so if you require water during the event, please remember to bring your own reusable water bottle already filled up. A Scottish Power water refill station will be available to use at the finish.”
