As the threat of cyber attacks continues to grow, businesses in the Highlands and Islands have two opportunities to come together and discuss the new challenges they are facing during the Covid-19 pandemic, including details of the cyber threat landscape.

On May 13 and 27, the Scottish Business Resilience Centre will host free webinars to discuss how Highland organisations can ensure their businesses are cyber resilient.

Cyber advisors including ethical hackers will share information on the most up-to-date cyber threat landscape and detail methods to improve cyber resilience and communicate securely with staff.

The panel includes representatives from the Scottish Government Cyber Resilience Unit, Police Scotland Highland & Islands Cyber Protect Officers and the centre's ethical hackers.

Each hour-long webinar is delivered on behalf of Highlands and Islands Enterprise and supported by The Scottish Government, The National Cyber Security Centre, Police Scotland, and Business Gateway.

Jude McCorry, the resilience centre's CEO, said: “So many businesses have moved operations online as we all do our part to limit the spread of the coronavirus. However, moving business online naturally increases the risk of cyber threats – many of us have had to rapidly learn new tools and applications that don’t always have the same level of security we’ve grown to expect our businesses.

“These webinars are a fantastic opportunity for business leaders throughout the Highlands and Islands to ensure they have the capability to keep their operations secure and ongoing.”

Steven Hutcheon, interim regional head of innovation and technology at HIE, added: “SBRC have recently delivered cyber resilience workshops across the region and these webinars build on that awareness raising to date.

"With support from the Scottish Government Cyber Resilience Unit, we will continue to provide businesses in the region with cybersecurity specialist advice throughout these challenging times.”

The webinars will take place at 10am on 13 May (register here) and again on 27 May (register here) and are open to all members of the Highland and Island SME business community.

The SBRC began running webinars in March. Over 1,000 members of the Scottish business community have attended so far, with topics including finance, legal, marketing, security, and leadership and people.
