A car park at a Highland beauty spot will be extended after planners gave the public landowner permission to carry out the works.

Forestry and Land Scotland wanted to add 14 new parking spaces at Dog Falls in Glen Affric.

It also sought to re-route a core footpath.

The project will be aimed at improving site capacity for visitors as well as the quality of visitor access and safety.

The new parking spaces and improved traffic flow mean visitors will no longer need to walk on the public road.

With the site lying within the Strathglass Complex Special Area of Conservation (SAC), Scotland’s nature agency NatureScot carried out an appraisal of the plan.

A report stated: “There are natural heritage interests of international importance on the site, but our advice is that these will not be adversely affected by the proposal.”

It also found that the development was “unlikely” to have a significant effect on the Strathconon to Glen Affric Special Protection Area (SPA) or any adverse effect on the Glen Affric National Scenic Area (NSA).
