MORE than a dozen Highland schools and nurseries were closed this morning after heavy snows caused disruption in parts of the region.

Daviot, Stratherrick, Carrbridge, Grantown and Kingussie were among the communities hit by school closures – all due to the bad weather.

The closures came as heavy snow brought disruption to roads and railways on higher ground overnight and this morning, with Traffic Scotland cameras showing lying snow on the A9 at multiple locations – from Daviot in the north to Drumochter in the south. The A95 at Grantown was also experiencing lying snow.

And ScotRail was warning that the Highland mainline is subject to disruption after heavy snow between Inverness and Aviemore affected signalling equipment.
