‘Heartwarming’ time with ponies is highlight for Nairn care home summer fete

Residents at a Nairn care home had a ball at their recent summer fete and enjoyed a very special visit.

Manor Care Centre celebrated the season with fun activities as well as a surprise visit form therapy ponies Chester and Opal during the day.

Lynda Fraser, who set up Coco Ponies last year in a bid to bring the “sense of calm and joy” coming from the contact with the animals to residents in local care homes and in other settings, said it was a wonderful day and seeing residents interact with the ponies was “heartwarming”.

She said: “It was so good to see the residents interacting with the ponies. That’s why I do this, for the effect it has on people and how this can boost people’s mental health. “

She said she plans to return to the care home in the future and is looking forward to meet residents and staff again.

Michelle Mackenzie, home manager at Manor Care Centre said: "Our summer fete was a great success, bringing joy and excitement to both our residents and colleagues.

“The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the visit from the therapy ponies, which brought such happiness to everyone involved. These visits are incredibly beneficial for our residents, offering not only a fun and unique experience but also providing therapeutic comfort.

“The connection they feel with the animals helps to lift spirits, reduce stress, and create lasting, positive memories. It’s days like these that truly enhance the well-being of our community here at Manor Care Centre."
